Rodent proofing

Trapping removes the rats in the building today. Proofing decides whether you're doing this again next winter.

We do the work, not just the report

Ratman carries out physical proofing and sealing on site. You get the repairs, not a list of findings and a recommendation to call someone else. Where a job genuinely needs a trade — major roof works, structural repairs, tree removal — we'll say so clearly and scope what's left for us.

The entry points we target

Gap beside an external wall and pipe where rodents enter a garage

Ground level

  • Open or broken weep holes in brickwork.
  • Gaps around water, waste and gas penetrations.
  • Damaged or missing subfloor vents and access hatches.
  • Gaps under external doors and garage doors.
  • Broken air-conditioning and cable penetrations.

Roof level

  • Eave, fascia and barge board gaps.
  • Lifted tiles, open valley ends and ridge capping gaps.
  • Whirlybird, vent, flue and solar penetrations.
  • Gaps where the gutter meets the roof line.

Inside

  • Kickboard and cabinet voids in kitchens and laundries.
  • Penetrations behind dishwashers, ovens and sinks.
  • Wall cavity openings around plumbing and cabling.

Materials and approach

Proofing only holds if the material resists gnawing. We use steel mesh, sheet metal, mortar and purpose-made rodent-resistant products in the places rodents work at. Expanding foam alone is not proofing — a rat will be through it inside a week — so we don't use it as the barrier.

Order matters. We proof after trapping has knocked activity down, so we're not sealing animals inside the building. On an active job that usually means sealing external access on the first visit and completing internal work once the traps stop producing.

What proofing can and can't promise

Proofing closes the routes we can find and reach on your property. It does not make a house permanently rodent-proof — new damage, construction next door, renovations and a neighbour's bins can all change the picture. We'll tell you what we sealed, what we couldn't, and what to keep an eye on.

Usually paired with rat control, mouse control or a rodent inspection.
